From a young age I always knew that I loved to write. I recall trying to write stories as a first and second grader and loving every moment of it. It was very difficult but I remember spending lots of time trying to accomplish it. In grades three through five, there were limited assignments that let me explore my writing talents. But, as I grew older I could see huge improvements in myself both as an English student and as a writer. In middle school we worked a lot on writing skills and I feel as though my teachers all really wanted to see us turn into great writers with the extensive pieces we were required to write as well as countless class lectures instructing us on how to write. It was in the 8th grade that I decided that I was going to start the honors track for high school English and really let myself grow.
In my four years of high school English I, along with countless others, I have seen myself grow. The writing workshop process specifically has been responsible for the huge strides that I have made. I loved the freedom that we were given with writing and the fact that we could explore any form of writing in our own way. The structure that did exist was that there were a certain amounts of conferences and drafts that we were to obtain. But, with this structure came the important lessons and advice that would help me to become the writer that I am today.
After junior year I made the decision to take creative writing honors as one of my senior year English electives. I knew from my past three years of English that writing was a strength of mine and I wanted to be able to explore it even more with a class devoted solely to writing. This class alone has helped my writing tremendously. It made writing a strength for me even more than it already was. Writing is clearly a skill that helps me in all of my classes as well as a skill I will keep with me through college and the rest of my life.
